چکیده

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Building cars to customer order has been the goal of volume vehicle manufacturers since the birth of mass production. Eliminating the vast stocks of unsold vehicles held in distribution parks around the world represents potential savings worth billions, yet the current supply chain resembles islands of control, driven by production push. Despite recent advances in information technology offering total visibility and realtime information flow, transforming an “old world” industry to adopt customer responsiveness and build-to-order represents a significant step change. This requires overcoming barriers both within and between supply partners and at all levels of the supply chain. Yet, what are these barriers really like and how can the industry overcome them? An application of principal component analysis and logistic regression to facilitate production scheduling decision support system: an automotive industry case

Production planning and control (PPC) systems have to deal with rising complexity and dynamics. The complexity of planning tasks is due to some existing multiple variables and dynamic factors derived from uncertainties surrounding the PPC. Although literatures on exact scheduling algorithms, simulation approaches, and heuristic methods are extensive in production planning, they seem to be ineff...

The Evolution of Competition in the Automotive Industry

At the dawn of the second automotive century it is apparent that the competitive realm of the automotive industry is shifting away from traditional classifications based on firms’ production systems or geographical homes. Companies across the regional and volume spectrum have adopted a portfolio of manufacturing concepts derived from both mass and lean production paradigms, and the recent wave ...

Enterprise information systems as a service: enterprise software from the cloud follows patterns from industry

This paper draws an analogy between developments in enterprise software and in capital goods manufacturing industry. Many branches of manufacturing industry, especially automotive industry, have grown in maturity by moving from craftsmanship to mass production. These industries subsequently move from mass production towards mass customization, introducing lean practices. Finally, full maturity ...

An Agent-Based Information Technology Architecture for Mass Customized Markets

This chapter presents a Web-enabled, agent-based information system model to support masscustomized markets. We present a distributed, real-time, Java-based, mobile intelligent information system that interfaces with firms’ existing IT infrastructures, follows a build-to-order production strategy, and integrates order-entry with supply chain, manufacturing, and product delivery systems. The mod...

A Hierarchical Production Planning and Finite Scheduling Framework for Part Families in Flexible Job-shop (with a case study)

Tendency to optimization in last decades has resulted in creating multi-product manufacturing systems. Production planning in such systems is difficult, because optimal production volume that is calculated must be consistent with limitation of production system. Hence, integration has been proposed to decide about these problems concurrently. Main problem in integration is how we can relate pro...
